It has its beginnings in distant Mexico, but the sport of padel is also developing rapidly in Kosovo. It is very similar to tennis, but padel is a sport with special characteristics. Seeing the great interest of young people in this sport, in 2021 the Padel Federation was founded in Kosovo. Although new, this federation already counts five professional padel clubs, while its secretary, Jusuf Kika, tells KosovaPress that several other clubs are in the process of being created. Seeing this increase in interest in this sport, Kika says that it is very necessary to build padel courts in other cities of Kosovo, but admits that this federation does not have the budget to do this. He also talks about some of the characteristics of this sport. The Padel Federation's plans, according to its secretary, are big. Next year, an international event in this sport will be organized in Kosovo. "Immediately after the opening of the first padel courts, until now I can say that we have organized more than 15 or 20 tournaments, some smaller and some bigger. The state championship is understood every year we organize it, we have two editions within the year of the padel league... While here in Pristina we have not held a Balkan or European tournament, we have not yet passed that level, but by 2025 Kosovo will be the host for one of these tournaments since we are in talks with the regional federations to create a Balkan padel committee", emphasizes Kika. Kika also announces that the sport of padel is expected for the first time to be among the sports that will be held in Kosovo, also within the framework of the Mediterranean Games that will be held in our country in 2030.
