Sheffield United have secured relegation from the Premier League after today's 5:1 defeat against Newcastle United.
Sheffield has secured only three victories in the Premier League throughout the season and has now fallen from the elite of English football with three games remaining until the end of this season, reports KosovaPress.
The club are bottom of the table with 16 points from 35 games, meaning they cannot mathematically catch Nottingham Forest in 17th position on 26 points.
Only Derby County (11 points in the 2007/08 season) and Sunderland (15 points, in the 2005/06 season) have recorded lower points in Premier League history.
Sheffield United was ahead today 1:0 at "St James' Park" after Anel Ahmedhodzic's goal in the 5th minute, but two goals from Alexander Isak, a headed goal from Bruno Guimaraes, a goal from Callum Wilson and an own goal from Ben Osborn consigned Chris Wilder's side to their 25th defeat of the season and ensured they will return to the Championship after a season in the Premier League.
Paul Heckingbottom, who guided the club to promotion last year, was sacked in December after collecting just one win and five points in their first 14 league games.
Wilder was appointed on an 18-month contract, but he has been unable to turn the club's fortunes around - winning just two of the 21 Premier League games he has managed.
