The opposition's protest, the throwing of Molotov cocktails towards the Municipality of Tirana, the internationals react
The opposition, the Reestablishment group and members of the Freedom Party protested today in front of the Tirana Municipality. This protest comes in the wake of the first one a few days ago, as the opposition demands the removal of Erion Veliaj from the leadership, after the arrest of three former officials of this municipality, who are being investigated by SPAK. In today's protest, the opposition representatives threw Molotov bombs again near the door of the town hall, and also threw apples, paint and other objects. They also tried to break the metal cord set by the police, in order to enter the premises of the municipality. After the above-mentioned scenes, there have been some reactions from the inter-community members, who have unanimously condemned the acts of violence. The American Embassy in Tirana expressed in its reaction that the USA condemns the violence used during the protest, while emphasizing that responsible political actors must reject any form of violence. "The Embassy of the United States condemns the acts of violence during today's protest near the Municipality of Tirana. The right to peacefully assemble, protest and demand action against corruption are all vital in any democracy, but there is no place for the violence undertaken by the organizers. Responsible political actors must reject any form of violence. We salute the law enforcement officials for their professionalism during today's protest", says the Embassy's response, Top channel writes, KosovaPress broadcasts. After the American Embassy, the British Embassy also condemned the violence in the opposition protest in front of the Tirana City Hall this Friday. "The scenes outside Tirana City Hall today and the use of Molotov cocktails have no place in democracy. The British Embassy condemns the use of violence and acts of intimidation. The United Kingdom continues to demand that all disputes and conflicts be resolved through democratic processes, without violence, and that the rule of law must be respected," the British embassy wrote. Meanwhile, the delegation of the European Union in Tirana has also condemned the violence, stressing that such acts have no place in a democratic society and have nothing to do with the legitimate right to peaceful protest. "We strongly condemn the violence during today's protest in the center of Tirana, during which improvised pyrotechnic devices were thrown at the town hall building. Such acts have no place in a democratic society and have nothing to do with the legitimate right to peaceful protest", says the reaction of the EU delegation./Top channel
