Primary liver cancer is an uncommon type of cancer, but it is serious and should not be ignored. This form differs from "living" secondary cancer, which requires malignant cells to start forming in the liver, while the latter develop elsewhere in the body, before spreading to the organ. Symptoms of primary liver cancer are often vague and do not appear until the cancer is at an advanced stage, but early detection is essential.

A sign of this disease can be seen in the eyes. The British National Health Service (NHS) states that one of the most common symptoms of liver cancer is yellowing of the whites of the eyes, which is part of a condition known as jaundice. This can also make your skin look yellow, although it may not be as noticeable on some skin types. Other symptoms of liver cancer include unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, feeling full after eating even if the meal was small, dizziness and vomiting, stomach pain or swelling, itchy skin and extreme tiredness.

It is recommended to visit the general practitioner as soon as you notice any of these symptoms. Although the symptoms may be the result of a "more common condition", it is always a good idea to get checked because early detection of cancer can save a life. "You should also contact your GP if you have previously been diagnosed with a condition known to affect the liver, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis C infection, and your health suddenly worsens," advises the NHS.
