The US State Department's report on Kosovo is seen as worrying for the opposition parties and civil society. According to them, government interventions in the justice system, the level of corruption, the impunity of government officials, domestic violence and gender-based violence are reflected in the same.
However, the ruling party, the Vetëvendosje Movement, denies interference in the justice system, while stressing that they will analyze every international report that monitors the efficiency of Kosovo's institutions.The opposition deputy also points out the serious restrictions on freedom of expression and freedom of the media, including through violence or threats against journalists.
On the other hand, the researcher at the Democratic Institute of Kosovo (KDI), Vullnet Bugaqku told KosovaPress that the DASh report highlights some problems faced by the justice system, such as the lack of accountability and inefficiency in handling corruption cases.
According to him, the report emphasizes that the government has not shown efficiency in the implementation of the law and has also not taken any legal measures against government officials who have been involved in corrupt affairs.
The report of the State Department for Human Rights states that there were no significant changes during 2023 for the human rights situation in Kosovo.
