Mithat Frashëri, the opponent of communism
Mithat Frashëri was born in Ioannina on March 25, 1889, the son of Abdyl Frashëri, military leader of the League of Prizren - Mithat was, therefore, the grandson of Sami and Naim.
Mithati was educated in Istanbul, employed in the Ottoman administration. He is remembered not only for his ancestry, but also for his bookstore, the party (Balli Kombëtar), and his opposition to communism.
He participated in the Congress of Bitola on November 14-November 22, 1908. Mit'hat bey Frashëri was elected president of the Congress and vice president of the Commission for the drafting of the alphabet, the president of the Commission was Gjergj Fishta.
At the age of 32, he finally left Istanbul and traveled to Albania, passing from Kosovo to Skopje and then to Elbasan. In 1912, in the Government of Albania, created by Ismail Qemali, he was elected Minister of Public Affairs. On March 30, 1913, he resigned from office due to indignation against the attitude of the prime minister towards the siege of Ioannina.
In January 1923, he began his duties as Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Albania in Athens. He performed this duty until December 1925. According to Mehdi Frashër: "In 1924-1925 he was the representative of Albania in Athens, who was very interested in the miserable condition of the Albanians in Chameri".
In November 1944, Frashëri left Albania. He died suddenly in a hotel in New York on October 3, 1949, as a result of a heart attack - it is speculated that he died poisoned by the KGB, while the USA had begun preparations for a clandestine operation against the communist regime in Albania, where Mithati had been elected consensus chairman of the coordinating committee for all Albanians in exile for this operation, therefore his sudden death cast a shadow of doubt.
