On the eve of the vote of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Kosovo's membership in this organization, the Vetëvendosje Movement expects a positive result. According to the ruling party, the country has met all the criteria and on April 16, it will receive the green light in the assembly, to pave the way for the final decision of the Committee of Ministers in May. Prime Minister Albin Kurti's party also calls on the European Union to react to Serbia's campaign against Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
The deputy of the LVV, at the same time the chairperson of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, Arbëreshë Kryeziu-Hyseni, tells KosovaPress that Kosovo should not remain hostage to political processes, therefore the Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs should vote for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. She emphasizes that any kind of attempt to delay the process of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe and the imposition of any additional conditions would be unfair.
However, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs underlines that Kosovar diplomacy is actively working with the member states of the Council of Europe to secure the necessary votes for membership in this organization. On March 27 of this year, the Committee for Politics and Democracy of the Council of Europe approved the report of the rapporteur for Kosovo, Dora Bakoyannis, where it is recommended that the country has fulfilled the conditions to become a full member of the Council of Europe.
