After the position of the Serbian List that they will not participate in the vote for the dismissal of the Albanian mayors of the four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo, doubts have been raised that the vote on April 21 will be successful. According to election process monitors, Serbian citizens in the north are expected to obey the calls of the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, therefore the current presidents will remain in office. In case of failure, according to the Administrative Instruction of MLGA, a new petition for the dismissal of the mayors can be filed only after 12 months, when the regular local elections are held.
The researcher at the Democratic Institute of Kosovo (KDI), Eugen Cakolli, tells KosovaPress that the warning about the boycott of the Serbian List is strange, considering that this party had participated in securing 20 percent of the signatures to start the procedure for dismissal of the leaders in the north.University professor Kadri Kryeziu also considers the voting process of April 21 to be a failure, who tells KosovaPress that only the resignations of the current presidents in the north will produce new elections there..
On the other hand, Cakolli predicts that the current mayors in the north will finish their regular mandate by the end of 2025.The QUINT countries in Kosovo have also expressed regret for this decision of the Serbian List.
The Central Electoral Commission has decided that the vote for the dismissal of the presidents in the north will be held on April 21, after verifying the citizens' signatures on the petitions that were collected in January./E.Zeqiri/
