The Supreme Commander of the NATO Forces for Europe and the Commander of the European Command of the American Army, Christopher Cavoli, said that NATO has decided to increase the reserve forces within the framework of KFOR in Kosovo and EUFOR-Altea in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said in a hearing before the US Senate Armed Services Committee on April 11 that at least two focused missions have been launched to gather more information and better understand the events in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"After doing the full audit of KFOR, we came to the conclusion that we need not only more forces, but also stronger forces. This process is ongoing. We will bring more heavy equipment into the field, as well as more people," he said. Cavoli estimated that ethnic tensions in Bosnia also have the potential to escalate and destabilize the Western Balkans region. He noted that Russia's activities to incite tensions between ethnic Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats are aimed at weakening the country and preventing deepening ties with the EU and NATO. "Ethno-nationalist politics prevent Bosnia and Herzegovina from adopting the necessary political, legal and economic reforms that would advance its Euro-Atlantic integration," the American general noted. He added that Republika Srpska is trying to weaken BiH's state power and relations with the EU and NATO, maintaining close ties with Russia.
