Patients who needed a SPECT/CT/PET scan will no longer need to go abroad for treatment. This is after Nuclear Medicine at KKUK from the donation of the Foundation led by former president Atifete Jahjaga and the philanthropic foundation Alwaleed Philanthropies have today received modern SPECT/CT/PET equipment. On this occasion, President Vjosa Osmani said that this advanced technology is not simply an additional device, but a rebirth for the health sector, promising expanded diagnostic services.

The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, announced that due to the lack of this type of equipment, over 300 citizens sought treatment abroad during the year.

Former president Atifete Jahjaga has emphasized that she will also reduce the financial burden of the health system, improving the general standard of medical services in Kosovo.

The Princess of Saudi Arabia, Lamia Bint Majed Saud Alsaud from the Philanthropic Foundation Alwaleed Philanthropies has emphasized that their presence in nuclear medicine shows the central role that the Government of Kosovo and the hospital have in their priorities for citizens.

Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are nuclear medicine imaging techniques that provide metabolic and functional information unlike CT and MRI. They have been combined with CT and MRI to provide detailed anatomical and metabolic information.

SPECT-PET/CT scanning is an effective way to detect several diseases, including cancer, heart disease and brain disorders. To perform the procedure, a radioactive drug is taken that shows the patient's typical and atypical metabolic activity. /A. Shala
