The modern Italian flag was first used on January 7, 1797.

The flag consisting of three strips of equal vertical width, tricolor; white, red, green, where white represents the snow-capped Alps; the color green represents the plains and hills of the country; red, the blood shed in the Italian wars for independence.

Another interpretation is that green represents hope; white faith, and red divine love.

These colors also refer to three theological virtues: faith, hope, charity. /KosovaPress/
