The film Sujo received the Grand Prize in the international competition of the 28th Sofia International Film Festival (SIFF) at a ceremony in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture on Saturday evening. The honor comes with a cash prize of 7.000 euros, which is shared between the director and the producer, and is provided by the Municipality of Sofia.

Sujo, a co-production of Mexico, France and the US, is directed by Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez, who have been described as the "new masters" of Mexican cinema. Their joint work comes to Sofia after winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival's International Feature Film Competition in January. The jury awarded the Bulgarian short film prize to Chocolate, directed by Orlin Milchev, as well as a diploma for cinematographic achievement to an entry from Japan: Beyond the Mist, directed by Daichi Murase. The award for best director in the international competition went to India's Shuchi Talati for Girls Will Be Girls. The special jury prize was awarded to the film "The Capture" by Adi Voicu (Romania). Stefan Komandarev's Blaga Lessons received two awards: for the best film in the Bulgarian New Feature Film Program and for the best film in the festival's Balkan competition, awarded by the Union of Film Critics of Bulgarian Cinematographers . The audience award was given to the film "Because I Love Bad Weather" - artistic debut of the Bulgarian director Yana Lekarska. /BTA
