The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry has raised its concern about the increase in real estate tax.

Leaders of this chamber in a press conference have emphasized that the increase in property tax will be a heavy blow to businesses in the country.

The Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DhTIK), Skënder Krasniqi, has blamed the Government of Kosovo for the lack of cooperation with businesses in terms of completing the change of laws in the country, especially the one on real estate.

Krasniqi has emphasized that the situation after the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian aggression in Ukraine, businesses are in a difficult situation.

Regarding this, he has expressed his concern about the lack of cooperation from the Government with businesses. He has even invited Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, to be closer to the business community. In addition, Krasniqi reacted to the Government regarding the implementation of the "SuperPuna" project.

"We as the Chamber of Commerce want to express public concern about the lack of sufficient cooperation with the institutions of Kosovo regarding the bad situation of doing business in Kosovo. We invite the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, the ministers, and especially the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murat to visit us and discuss more before they make such decisions or proposals for changing the laws or completing the changing of the laws that are going without a sufficient reaction or cooperation with businesses", said Krasniqi.

The general secretary of ICT, Shyqiri Bytyqi emphasized that the increase in property tax will hinder the development of businesses.

The former Minister of Education, Bytyqi, also said that the re-evaluation of properties for residents are not real evaluations.

He said that with the completion of the amendment of the Law on property, which is expected to have a progressive rate and an increase in property tax, it will have a very negative impact on the development of the sustainability of businesses in Kosovo.

"From the completion of the amendment of the Property Law, which is expected to have a progressive rate and an increase in the property tax, it will have a very negative impact on the development of the sustainability of businesses in Kosovo", he emphasized.

Bytyqi also explained the increase in property tax from 200 to 700 euros.

In this media conference, the chairman of the Board, Krasniqi, also emphasized that they are also concerned about the way of implementing the "SuperPuna" project.

He emphasized that businesses are being conditioned to benefit from this project, that according to him, most businesses are not managing to receive support from "SuperPuna".

Even Arsim Selmonmusaj from DHTIK said that if the government of Kosovo continues with these fiscal policies, there is a risk that businesses will leave the country.

The draft law on real estate tax is in the Assembly of Kosovo, which has passed the first reading in the Budget Committee. The tightening of the property tax over 100 percent and in some cases even over 700 percent came into force from January of this year, which was opposed by citizens, the opposition and businesses.
