The US State Department has called on Serbia to refrain from unilateral and uncoordinated actions, and has said that it expects the immediate release of the deputy director of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Jankovic.

DASH calls on the Serbian authorities to act transparently and in full compliance with the law regarding the Kosovar citizens detained in Serbia yesterday.

"Arbitrary or unjustifiably long detentions, especially if they target Kosovo Police officers, will be seen as escalating actions that undermine peace and stability," a State Department spokesperson told Radio Free Europe on April 18. KosovaPress.

According to the Kosovar authorities, Serbia stopped over 1.400 Kosovars as they were transiting through Serbia.

Ten police officials were also among those arrested.

Sveçla: Jankovic has been sent to custody for disrupting the constitutional order of Serbia

The authorities said that nine police officers have been released, while Dejan Jankovic has been detained for 48 hours under the charge of violating the constitutional order of Serbia.

According to DASH, the agreement on free movement between Kosovo and Serbia, reached in 2011 in the dialogue mediated by the EU, "provides clear parameters for the entry and exit of Kosovar citizens in and out of Serbia".

"As the European Union has pointed out, delays like these last ones constitute a violation of this agreement", DASH said.

According to the agreement on freedom of movement, "citizens (with permanent residences) of both parties must be able to travel freely within or through each other's territory and at border points to circulate only with an identity card".

The State Department said all parties should refrain from actions that could jeopardize regional security and stability.

Earlier in the day, Jeffery Hovenier, the American ambassador in Pristina, and Jorn Rohde, the German ambassador in Pristina, also called for the release of Dejan Jankovic.

Kosovo has accused Serbia that with its recent actions it has committed a serious violation of human rights and has violated the agreements reached in the dialogue, which is mediated by the European Union.

Even the European bloc a day ago said that Serbia, with the ban on travelers and buses from Kosovo, on its borders with Hungary and Croatia, has violated the Agreement on free movement.

Kosovo has said that the detention and "mistreatment" of the citizens of Kosovo who were passing through Serbia, was done "as a sign of revenge" after on April 16, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe supported Kosovo's membership in this organization.

Serbia has said that it will work to prevent Kosovo from being admitted to this organization during the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Council of Europe on May 16.
