Israel carried out the attack inside Iran, a US official told CNN, in a move that threatens to push the region deeper into conflict. The Israeli military said it had "no comment at this time" when asked by CNN about reports of explosions in Iran. An Iranian official said air defense intercepted three drones and there were no reports of a missile attack. Multiple state news agencies have reported that sites linked to Iran's nuclear program are "completely secure". Iran's Fars news agency said an air defense system had been activated in the city of Isfahan and that the cause of the attack was not immediately known.
CNN reported that several flights in Iranian airspace were diverted. Over the weekend, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles in response to an alleged Israeli attack on its embassy in Syria. Most of the drones and missiles were shot down before reaching Israeli territory. On Thursday, Iran told the UN Security Council that Israel must be forced to end all military attacks on its interests, while the UN Secretary-General warned that the Middle East is at a moment of "most danger big".
