Cillian Murphy wins Best Actor at the 2024 Oscars
Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born winner of the best actor award, while Oppenheimer won the Oscar. The film dominated the Oscars, winning Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. Murphy was nominated for Best Actor for his acclaimed portrayal of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer. The actor said he was thrilled to win, adding: "I'm a very proud Irishman to be standing here tonight." The ceremony saw the film Oppenheimer win seven awards overall, while Poor Things picked up four - including best actress for Emma Stone. /BBC
