The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today paid homage and laid wreaths of fresh flowers near the graves of those who fell in the 1999 Brestoc massacre.
26 years later, the Prime Minister, together with the families and relatives of the victims, honored and remembered the 49 martyrs and five martyrs of this village. On March 25, 1999, the Serbian armed forces committed one of the most horrific massacres, a day after the start of NATO bombing of Serbian targets, reports KosovaPress.
From Brestoc, the prime minister continued his tributes to Forteša and Celina, and then to Goden. The massacres in Trnje, Brestoc, Forteša, Celina and Goden were carried out exactly one day after the start of the NATO bombing campaign.
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, also remembered the 75 fallen in Celina, 68 in Forteşa and 54 in Brestoc on their anniversary.
Haradinaj said that March 25, 1999 marks one of the most painful days in our history."March 25, 1999 marks one of the most painful days in our history, when Milosevic's criminal regime massacred innocent children, women and the elderly, leaving behind indelible scars.
"Today, in commemoration of this sacrifice, together with the mayor of Rahovec, Smajl Latifi, fellow soldiers and colleagues, we were close to the families who with pride and pain remember the 75 fallen in Celina, 68 in Forteşa and 54 in Brestoc," said Haradinaj.
Haradinaj added that the wounds of that time are still open, reports KosovaPress.
"The wounds of that time remain open, while the memory of the victims obliges us to never forget and to seek justice," Haradinaj said.
