The president of the Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, has managed to leave the country despite an arrest warrant being issued for him. He traveled from Belgrade to Israel last night.

Dodik's lawyer says verdict not yet in hand: He also mentioned "a possible appeal", reports liberation.

"I have begun a visit to Israel, a country whose strength, history and determination I deeply respect. Israel shows that freedom and security are priceless and that a people who know who they are - refuse to be either a target or a subordinate," he wrote.

He also added that Republika Srpska and Israel protect each other without apology.

"Just as Israel defends itself mercilessly, so too does Republika Srpska defend its right to exist, to establish and preserve the covenant of its ancestors. Serbs and Jews are peoples who tried to completely disappear - and they survived. That is why we understand each other. And that is why we stand together."
