The Atlas Institute has requested that the Government of Kosovo remove the 8% value-added tax on electricity bills and compensate for millions of euros spent on energy consumption in the north, if it is decided to increase the price of electricity from April.

According to the Institute, the abolition of VAT and the return of 132.5 million euros paid for energy in the north would lead to a 36% reduction in energy prices for the years 2025 and 2026, it reports. KosovaPress.

"If ERO decides to increase the maximum allowed revenues by 15%, the Atlas Institute demands that the Government of Kosovo remove the 8% VAT on electricity bills and implement the opinion of the Ombudsman and the courts of Kosovo, returning 132.5 million euros that were unfairly paid for energy consumption in the north. These measures would reduce the price of energy by 36% during 2025 and 2026," the Atlas Institute's Facebook post states.

ERO has announced a proposal for a possible 15% increase in electricity tariffs, a proposal that has caused numerous reactions.

Until recently, a campaign has already been launched on social media to oppose this increase.
