Only six companies can pre-qualify to privatize the telecom, the criteria depend on how they have competed and the winner will be declared this year, said on Friday Minister of Economic Development, Besim Beqaj, during the presentation of the work for the first six months of this year.

However, he said that subsidies in KEC were reduced, and according to him in other PEs are costs were reduced.
"Only from the Kosovo budget for monitoring and functioning of public enterprises, around 8 million euro were expended, while from the donors in cooperation with municipalities, were expanded 58.8 million euro," he said.
Regarding the privatization of the telecom, he said that the winning company will be declared within this year.
"The tender will be opened in the first part of September, then, we will expect the procedures that last about two months, to receive the applications or tenders from companies that will be pre-qualified. And I strongly believe that we will announce the winning company and we will begin negotiations for the completion of this transaction before the end of this year but I will say once again, our work depends on the willingness of investors to respond in timeline," he said.
However, Beqaj said that despite everything, the Government is nor under the pressure of time neither under financial pressure to privatize the telecom.
He also explained some of the criteria that the companies will have to be qualified and according to him, only six companies can be pre-qualified.
"We will realize pre-qualification based on the criteria, it does not mean that there will be six companies, six is the maximum number of companies that can be pre-qualified.
The commission appointed by the five ministries, has set the criteria and according to them is appointed the winning company, but there is a rank of criteria, one is if they compete through a strategic operator, they must have 300 million euro turnover in the recent three years, another criterion is if they compete as an investor, as investment partner, as a fund, then they must have 750 million euro turnover in the last three years on annual basis," he said.
