Regarding to the addition of hectares of strawberries, it was increased 15 hectares since the last year, while the price of strawberries in the market is correct, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
These were announced on Tuesday, during the opening of Strawberry Fair "Dredhëzat 2012", in Pristina, where about 20 growers from different regions of Kosovo are participating.
Minister of Agriculture, Blerand Stavileci announced the news on the export of strawberries in Albania, while he with his baby daughter were tasting local strawberries in the center of the capital.
"A part of them has been exported to Albania, so, for the first time we meet the domestic demand with a culture and at the same time we also have export capacity, he said.
However, according to Stavileci, Kosovo meets the conditions to export strawberries even farther than in the region countries.
While, for the price of strawberries in the market, he claimed to be adequate.
"The issue of price, not only of strawberries, but also of others, should be analyzed at many aspects. If prices would be lower, then manufacturers would have been more unsatisfied, if the prices will be higher then there are others who are unsatisfied. In a free market economy, it is very difficult to be in a same line, the producer, the processor, the customer. However, basing on the huge demand that exists, but also in other characteristics of their quality and taste, I believe that the price is adequate, "he said.
The fair will be open until June 15 and all strawberry growers will offer their fruits packaged with labels of the campaign
"Për sofrën tonë."
Fair is organized by Ministry of Agriculture, USAID and IADK and its purpose is the promoting of domestic strawberry through direct sales on the "Mother Teresa" square.
