In the recent Report of Progress on Kosova for 2011, the protection of consumer was evaluated as one of the fields without progress. The chief of the Food and Veterinary Agency of Kosova (FVA), Valdet Gjinovci told Kosovapress that regarding the food products in Kosova, they are controlled by the inspectorate. He said that in the last years the activities of FVA are focused on creating the system of controlling the food operators, considering the increase of hygiene level of products and to increase the awareness of producers on implementation of international standards.
Regarding the products in Kosovas market that are used by local consumers, the Food and Veterinary Agency of Kosova is working on this issue and it is undertaking the required activities in order to offer safe products for all consumers of the country. In addition, FVA, as an authority for food control, has carried out several activities and controls as well in business operators. The control level is increased as well in border crossing points, the inspecting points in the border for all food products that are imported in Kosovas territory, Gjinovci said.
Whereas, the consumers complain that often they face expired products. Hazir Pacolli said that he has often faced expired products. According to him, there were cases when he has returned the products to the market where he has bought them.
