Makolli said that the criticisms for registration of diaspora are daily politics of the opposition, who, according to him, are making mistake for using diaspora for this thing.
He said that he is not aware for allocation of a budget for civil registration, however, according to him, the drafting will start, as the Ministry of Diaspora is obliged by law to create the list of diaspora.
He insists that the opposition is criticizing this project only for daily politics.
“Despite that the opposition parties need daily politics, I believe that there are issues that overcome them, the diaspora should not be used for daily politics, because it is longer than daily politics. The Ministry of Diaspora will start drafting this register, regardless what others think about it,” Makolli said.
However, Makolli mentioned as well the percentage of citizens of Kosova who live abroad. He said that according to informal statistics, around 30% of citizens live abroad, referring to the diaspora after ’45.
“According to informal statistics and according to the information in the recent census in Kosova, it is evaluated that from 25% to 30% of citizens of Kosova live abroad, I am talking about the period from ’45. The countries with the highest number of diaspora are Germany and Switzerland. However it is evaluated that over 800 000 citizens of Kosova live abroad, and some of them were obliged to give up on Kosovar citizenship, as some countries do not allow dual citizenship,” Makolli said.
