This is the second time, in the last two months, that the Parliament has voted in favor of articles, which hold journalists responsible if they do not disclose their sources.
SEEMO said that MPs have not shown care on local and international recommendations over decriminalization of defamation.
“Kosova’s politicians claim that European Union membership is their objective,” said the general secretary of SEEMO, Oliver Vujovic.
“In order to become EU member state, Kosova should approve and respect European laws and to accept international standards in all fields, including media,” Vujovic said, adding that freedom of media is essential element of democracy.
He hopes that in the near future, the MPs of Kosova’s Parliament will review their decision over amendments and will support freedom of media in Kosova.
