The member of the European Parliament, Bernd Posselt (CSU) said that EULEX in Kosova is not carrying out its duty and it has disappointed him, whereas he said that it is the time for EU to make it clear to Serbia’s leaders that their European perspective depends on development of rapports with Kosova and the issue of border should not be questioned anymore.

In an interview for DW, Posselt said that unfortunately EULEX is not carrying out its duty, adding that the European Parliament has stated clearly, for the last time few weeks ago in the report, that they want for EULEX to operate in same level in entire territory of Kosova, as they do not consider partition or something similar. He said that northern Kosova and northern Mitrovica are Kosova as other parts of the country, adding that unfortunately, still the reality is such and they are disappointed with efficiency of EULEX, thus the increase of troops is important. He said that in the meetings that he has had with Serbs, as well in Mitrovica, he has concluded that in north Mitrovica many Serbs are ready to integrate in Kosova, however they are afraid from criminals and nationalist elements from which they are terrorized.
He said that Kosovars are behaving with accountability, adding that the Government, opposition and the citizens are showing great political maturity and he hopes that this political maturity will continue. According to him, there is always the risk for small groups to misuse the situation and this does not deal only with Kosova, but as well with Macedonia and some parts of Serbia. He said that in general there is an unstable situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, in some parts of Kosova and in Macedonia, and this is a situation of certain danger and he hopes that this situation will not erupt.
Posselt said that EU should make it clear to Serbia’s leaders that their European perspective depends on development of rapports with Kosova and the issue of border should not be questioned anymore.
He said that even if they cannot recognize Kosova formally, the issue of border should not be questioned.
According to him, the second point is clear: they should say no to all plans for partition. He said that the issue of status with the recognition from almost half countries of the world, is regulated and every discussion on this issue causes only insecurity, adding that they should engage for five EU member states that have not recognized Kosova, to join the state that have recognized it.
He said that another important point is for EULEX to work in same level in entire territory of Kosova and to focus on its duties, adding that they are noticing a damage of EULEX image.
