Illegal wood cutting remains a concern

According to Stavileci, the joint annual review is another important step towards better planning of actions on this sector. He said that the objective of this meeting, which will be annual, is for all sides to meet, to discuss, to try to intensify the cooperation and to coordinate the actions for the development of forestry sector.

Based on the Forestry Strategy 2010-2020, he said that they have started a process of integrated planning and together with donors, through a multidimensional approach, as in actions, as well as financing different projects, constant efforts are being done to create a better system for mid-term and efficient planning, which will be followed as well by establishment of a system for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of plans.

“In the previous years we have started delegating some of competences from the central level to the local level for managing forests and after this period of time, despite of the work that was done, the negative phenomena, as the illegal wood cutting remain a concern for us. We cannot say that there is no positive movement, because the indicator of positive movements is as well the tripling of incomes from legal sale of wood in the previous year. However, the efficiency of implementing and monitoring mechanisms should increase in order to reach sustainable managing of our forest resources,” Stavileci said.
